A recent article from mobihealthnews.com describes how technology is helping streamline clinical trials by bridging communication between investigators, pharmaceutical companies and participants. Communication between companies and third party investigators is often a necessary component of conducting a clinical trial. Therefore, companies, such as Janssen R&D Clinical Trial Innovation Unit are helping companies establish consistency among investigator training and clinical trials by creating an online databank of non-proprietary clinical information, including training procedures and standards. Janssen in conjunction with TransCelerate BioPharma (an alliance of several large drug companies) is leading an initiative to create a standard, single sign-in online system for investigators to communicate with drug companies.  This would allow investigators and companies a more efficient means of managing data. Mobile technology is also providing a new way for drug companies to reach out to patients. Companies such as Omniscience Mobile work with pharma companies to provide text messaging contact options for recruitment and screening of potential study participants.  Apps are also being created to manage patient information for the provider as well as for the participant (ex. calendar of appointments, directions to the trial site).  Remote monitoring is another technological advance in clinical trials, with the FDA approving the first one by Transparency Life Sciences.  To read the full article from mobihealthnews.com, click here.
