According to a recent article in News-Medical.net, the Sunshine Act’s new Open Payments plan could potentially be the cause of a dramatic downfall in U.S. clinical research. Research conducted from the U.S. Open Payments database has shown that between 2013 and 2014, clinical research spending has declined 32%, with nearly $500 million less spent. While the Open Payments program was designed to create transparency regarding healthcare finances, such transparency may be hurting rather than helping some activities such as research.
