This alliance is a response to how ineffective big data sharing has been for people around the world. Major institutions have been a part of the formation of this group including Harvard, the National Institutes for Health, and the Beijing Genomic Institute. Better patient treatments due to the rapid access of disease samples from throughout the world is one of the major common grounds that the alliance has, but a financial model as well as the technology to run such an idea are still works in progress. Another road block is the loss of control over data to the alliance, but the group is still pushing forward with their mission.
